The conference program begins on the morning of Thursday 4 June and we are delighted that Minister John Gardner is joining us to open the conference.
Keynote speaker Dr Pedro Noguera starts the day off with some amazing insights and discussions around the ways in which schools are influenced by social and economic conditions as well as by demographic trends in local, regional and global contexts.
At the conclusion of Dr Noguera’s keynote we have provided some time for you to reflect on the day’s discussions and encourage you to take a walk down Jetty Road where we will be providing some excellent deals from some of the local retailers. You’ll need to be back by 5.30pm to enjoy canapes and pre-dinner drinks with delegates and sponsors.
A late start on Friday morning gives you the choice to have a slow start to the day or perhaps spend some time with colleagues over breakfast.
Kate Christie is energetic, positive and will have you rethinking how you spend your valuable time in a work day with some great tips on organising your time and maximising productivity. A working lunch will be served at your table during Kate’s presentation so you don’t miss a word!
Conclusions of the conference will see the draw of the exciting sponsor passport prizes and evaluation of the conference before we send you on your way to enjoy the Queens Birthday long weekend.
Inside the venue the temperature will be comfortable but winter at Glenelg can be very chilly so don’t forget to pack a warm coat and umbrella for when you venture outside to enjoy the atmosphere of Glenelg.
The SAPPA Conference networking dinners on both Wednesday (3/6) and Thursday (4/6) are included in your registration fee and are a great tradition for conference delegates. The food at the Stamford Grand is exemplary and you will enjoy fine dining, fine wine and a chance to catch up with your colleagues over dinner.
Following dinner, casual entertainment will be provided or you may want to join your colleagues for a quiet drink in the Horizons Cocktail Bar on the Ground Floor.
Our sponsors are great supporters of SAPPA and without them we could not provide such a great range of products and services to members. Please show your appreciation by visiting their displays which will be located in the Exhibition area, alongside the plenary room. The popular ‘Sponsor Passport’ will again be handed out to each delegate upon arrival and once validated by each sponsor, you have a good chance of winning one of the amazing prizes on offer. Completed Sponsor Passports should be placed into the Sponsor Passport Box (located at the SAPPA Desk) by 11am on Friday 5 June. In order to claim your prize, you must be present in the main conference room for the announcements on Friday morning (or appoint a proxy who can collect the prize on your behalf). If neither of you are present, there will be a re-draw.
Parking is available at the multi story car park opposite the Stamford Grand (entrance and exit is via St Johns Row). For conference attendees, there is a discounted rate of $10 per day or $20 per 24 hours if staying overnight at the hotel. You must have your ticket validated by concierge to receive the discount.
SAPPA members from country regions are entitled to reimbursement for personal travel expenses but not if your school has paid. If you are from a country region and the round trip in your car is > 250 km, you will be reimbursed at the rate of 30c per km. Claims will be processed after the conference and upon receipt of a claim form with accompanying receipts attached. Claim forms will be available at the conference from the SAPPA Desk or by contacting Bernice at firstname.lastname@example.org. Claims must be received by the beginning of term 3. (20 July 2020)
Accommodation costs, landline calls from your room, beverages outside conference drinks packages and all other personal incidentals are your responsibility and will be at your own expense.
Wi-Fi will be available throughout the hotel at no additional cost, but if you experience any problems, please see Bernice or Christine.
Please ensure that all mobile phones are turned off or set to Silent during conference proceedings.
For those who have booked accommodation, please note that check out time is 11am each day so you will need to allow some extra time on Friday morning to vacate your room and check out at Reception on the ground floor.
We hope you have an enjoyable and insightful time at the 2020 SAPPA Conference.
